Concerning Myself

I'm not a journalist, I am a thinker. I share my thoughts with the world and present them as they are. You don't have to agree, I'm not trying to pass off my thoughts as the truth, but simply a view. Think about them and question them. Don't blindly believe what I or anyone else might tell you. Research for yourself and seek the truth with your own mind. Thank you.

Further Thoughts On "Thrive: What On Earth Will It Take"

When the movie "Thrive" by Foster Gamble was released, I had posted a review about it. Since then I have watched the movie a second and third time, I have some things I would like to add and I would like to share how my thinking has changed since I first reviewed it.
I stand by what I said about encouraging others to watch it (now it's free to watch on youtube, which is great), but as I watched it a second time I realized there were some things in it that I had previously missed (I have a tendancy to go from actively viewing to passively viewing and missing important details, I don't know why, but it's for that reason that I have watch Zeitgeist Addendum and Moving Forward at least 20 times).
I think the movie has a well-meaning message, but the more I think about it, the more I feel that the solution of an honest free market system is a very naive approach. Based on what I have personally learned, I think that the monetary system breeds elite groups and corruption. The problems that Mr. Gamble presents are all results of a system that breeds corruption and greed.
I would have taken this film in a totally different direction. Instead of going into conspiracy theories, I would have instead gone into the root of why Elite groups, corruption, and poverty exist. I would have examined the root causes, and not gone into speculation and conspiracy theories, and I would have presented The Free World Charter and The Venus Project as visions for the future and what could be if we abandoned the age-old monetary system and viewed poverty, war, disease, and corruption as problems that could be solved scientifically and with the right technology.
"Thrive" makes many good arguments and points out many important issues, and for that reason I recommend people see it, but not without questioning it, as with everything else. The problem with this movie is that it loses itself in conspiracy theories and speculation.
I'm not saying that there are no conspiracies in the world. I believe in conspiracies myself, however I take them with a grain of salt and I don't regard them as the absolute truth. Further, I think if we are going to look into solving the problems in today's world, we need to not get caught up in speculation too much. If these conspiracy theories are true, it certainly is important to know what stands in our way only so we can figure out what to do about it, but we really need to become more solution-oriented rather than conspiracy-oriented. This is what I love about The Zeitgeist Movement, The Venus Project, and the Free World Charter. They are solution-oriented. I think that is more important than speculating about conspiracy theories all the time.
