Concerning Myself

I'm not a journalist, I am a thinker. I share my thoughts with the world and present them as they are. You don't have to agree, I'm not trying to pass off my thoughts as the truth, but simply a view. Think about them and question them. Don't blindly believe what I or anyone else might tell you. Research for yourself and seek the truth with your own mind. Thank you.

How Selfishness May Be The Death Of Us All

It seems like people don't care what happens to other people as long as they get what they want. You can destroy a family and destroy someones future, hurt someone who is trying to get his life started, and it's okay as long as you get your free money. Free rides at any cost, right!? Doesn't matter who you have to hurt to get it.
This happens on an individual level, but also on a much larger collective level. On a smaller scale, people scam other people to get ahead either by stealing their identity, mugging them on the street at gun point, obtaining their trust in order to get bank information from them, claiming outrageous amounts of money in a minor car accident, hacking their bank accounts, or whatever it is. And on a larger scale, we have corporations and banksters buying off senators, presidents, and other politicians to get the okay to infringe on our civil liberties, destroy the environment, poison our water supply, pollute our air, and monopolize our food supply--all for personal gain and not a care in the world for future generations. As long as this quarter's profits are as good as or better than last quarter, it apparently doesn't matter.
When is this insanity--this cut-throat "personal gain at any cost" and cancerous behavior going to end? When are we going to figure out that the "every man for himself" mentality is not working and will sooner or later destroy us? What is it going to take for us to figure this out!? Why is it so hard for people to understand this? Is it greed that blinds us from this undeniable truth? Open your eyes before it's too late! Chances are the extinction that we face will be due to our own collective negligence.
Hopefully humankind's infancy comes to an end soon, and we can finally learn how to work together instead of against each other, learn how to watch out for one another and the only planet we have. Hopefully we will understand that what we are doing now can and will destroy us, BEFORE we kill each other off, die of poverty, war, and radiation poisoning. Hopefully we can learn before then!
At the rate we're going now, the way people behave towards each other and to their own planet, we don't have to worry about asteroids, gamma rays, solar flares, or the Earth being flung out of it's orbit by a rogue planet. We're going to be the death of ourselves! I don't know how long it's going to take for the human race to get this through their thick skulls, but hopefully it doesn't take too long. It's like we're in a money-induced coma and nobody is watching our vital signs!
If this all seems unorganized because of how I use examples of personal scamming along with profit-motivated environmental destruction, global poverty, and war, keep in mind that these seemingly different behaviors come from the same egotistical self-centered behavior. Altruism is truly our only hope for survival. That is why the majority of the world's belief systems preach it--because it is a fact that working together is essential for not only one's own individual survival, but the survival of the human race as a whole. When you have people working against one another for personal gain at any cost, what you get is completely unsustainable, and it will have detrimental consequences.
The lessons learned here:
1) The survival of the human race is also the survival of you and your family
2) Scams, frivolous lawsuits, theft of any kind, etc., are a reflection of the much larger problems we face collectively
3) What you do unto others you do unto thyself
4) Altruism is not a virtue, it is a survival requirement

“A new consciousness is developing which sees the earth as a single organism and recognizes that an organism at war with itself is doomed. We are one planet. One of the great revelations of the age of space exploration is the image of the earth finite and lonely, somehow vulnerable, bearing the entire human species through the oceans of space and time.”
-Carl Sagan
