Do you think it is past due time that the rich start paying more taxes? If not, there is a group of "patriotic millionaires" as they call themselves, who disagree with you.
On Wednesday (Nov. 16), a "millionaire mob" dressed in business attire payed a little visit our nation's capital with a rather bizarre, but noble, message--tax us more! Yes, that's right, folks! While many people protest any and all tax increases, there are rich people who are protesting because they believe they are not being taxed enough!
This is happening as millions of people around the US are protesting corporate greed, rising unemployment, what seems to be a marriage between Wall Street and Washington D.C., and ridiculous tax breaks for the rich.
One person they decided to visit was Grover Norquist, a conservative lobbyist and founder of Americans for Tax Reform, and he was ready for them. He says that if they want to pay more taxes, nobody is stopping them from donating money to the government. I suppose this is true, but it's not really the point.
The point is that these millionaires believe that there should be more taxes on all of the high income people in the US. This group of millionaires are not the only ones in the nation. There are plenty of other millionaires and billionaires who don't want to pay more taxes, but should. They like having more money than they actually need! And that is what this is about. It's about making the rich pay their fair share, not simply allowing them to donate money. When it comes to corporate greed, honor systems don't work. This is the message these millionaires are trying to convey! These patriotic millionaires might want to pay more taxes, but there are plenty of wealthy people who don't, and will not if they don't have to. This is why it must be a mandatory tax.
